I love using spreadsheets for all kinds of things, so I was very tickled by this comedy routine from Matt Parker a.k.a standupmaths!
He makes plenty of Excel-lent jokes (see what I did there?) but I also love his point that yes, most people do actually use spreadsheets for fun, they just don’t know it!
Personally I find Excel to be my favourite spreadsheet program – it’s the one Microsoft product I really like. I missed it when I retired as an engineer (where I used Excel for about 30 hours per week) and switched to using the free-but-awkward OpenOffice at home. These days I pay for a subscription to Microsoft Office 365 for home, but I’m also appreciating Google Sheets as a cloud-based option for spreadsheets that I want to be able to access across my devices.
If you’re looking for an introduction to using spreadsheets, try this one from zapier.com for Google Sheets, and if you’ve never used a pivot table, it’s worth taking a couple of minutes to find out how, because it will blow your mind!
