Nestled under the Exhibition Building, our LittleEsploras area is specifically designed for our youngest visitors.
With two indoor exhibit galleries, a workshop for hands-on activity sessions, a science theatre and even more exhibits in the Playscape outside, it’s no wonder that our little Explorers often want to stay on!
Your LittleEsploras Booking
We divide your visit to LittleEsploras into three sessions – one session in the “Home and Garden” exhibit gallery, one in the “Ball Factory” gallery, and one activity session with a Science Communicator, which can be a hands-on workshop or a science show with demonstrations.
Please consult the Education Programme to choose which activity you would like to book.
We can accept bookings of up to 3 classes at a time, please consult with the Bookings staff if you wish to bring a larger group.
What to Expect
When you arrive, a member of staff will guide you inside using a side door instead of the escalator, as we prefer to avoid having classes of young children on the escalator. Please wait for the staff member, as there are more than one possible entrances.
We will give your classes a lunch break early in their visit, especially in the case of Kinder classes, and part of your sessions will be spent outdoors in the Playscape if the weather permits it. Please note that the outdoor water exhibits are turned off in strong winds and the tricycles are not taken out if it is raining. We will let you decide whether the weather conditions are appropriate for outdoor play. If you decide against going outside, your class will remain in one of the indoor galleries instead.
An Explainer will explain your schedule for your visit, will be on hand to answer questions and offer suggestions during your sessions, and will help you move your class between areas. An Explainer cannot supervise your class for you – please ensure that you bring an adequate number of chaperones.
Your students’ backpacks will be stored out of the way during their activity and exhibit sessions, so that they have their hands free, and you can collect them for the lunch break and before leaving.
There is a dedicated bathroom for LittleEsploras which is located next to the Home and Garden gallery. There are two cubicles with child-sized toilets and basins, and a third cubicle with full-size adult furnishings that is also equipped to handle wheelchairs, and contains an infant changing table. Please let the Explainer know when you prefer to have your class do their toileting – we’ve found that it works best to take the entire class before or after an activity.
We have a fully-equipped First Aid room, numerous First Aid kits throughout the facility, and most of our members of staff are trained in First Aid.
