The Planetarium

A visit to the Planetarium involves exploring the two exhibit galleries, as well as your choice of a film or a live show in our state of the art fulldome theatre.

Important: Planetarium dome seating is capped at 50 visitors per show, so when you book it is important that you include all adults and carers in your figures, so we can book you the correct number of showings. We can accommodate up to 2 wheelchairs per showing, but we must be informed in advance, and this slightly reduces the total seating capacity.

Planetarium Exhibits

The exhibits in the first gallery are all to do with space and celestial bodies. Your students can lie back under the two-person viewers to investigate nebulae and black holes, scroll through our wall-mounted exhibit on space telescopes, and challenge themselves with the interactive Solar System quiz where you have to stand on a planet to choose your answer!

Our second Planetarium gallery is all about the human passion for space exploration. Your students can test their knowledge of space mission trivia, watch videos of astronauts on the International Space Station, practice using remote arms, and evaluate the possibility of life on other planets.

Planetarium Films

Our state-of-the-art Planetarium screen curves over and around the audience, so watching a fulldome film is truly an immersive experience!

Choose from a variety of topics and different age ranges to find a film that’s sure to appeal to your students. You can watch previews of the films and our Bookings staff can help you narrow down your choice if necessary.

Planetarium Live Shows

A brand new offering for the 2018/2019 season, Esplora now delivers live shows in the Planetarium!

Allow one of our Science Show Presenters to take you on a trip through space –  marvel at the constellations (we examine whatever is currently visible in the night sky from Malta), get up close and personal with the planets of our solar system, and stop by the International Space Station along the way!
